Stoke Class (Foundation Unit) Reception and Nursery
Hello and welcome to Stoke Class, our new Foundation Unit.
We accept children from the age of 2 years, right up until the end of the Foundation Stage (5 years old). Our teachers are Miss Campbell and Mrs. Rundle. Our Teaching Assistants are Miss Williams, Miss Hopkins and Mrs. Dunbar Rees.
As well as our lovely classroom, we have the use of our own outdoor play area, just for foundation children, and we can also access other areas of the school grounds. We also make good use of our beautiful local surroundings; Tuesday mornings we carry on our Outdoor Learning in our local environment visiting such places as the Community Orchard, Community Playing Fields, Church, local gardens, local farms and so on and Friday we walk to the woods to our Forest School area and, when the weather improves we visit Mothecombe Beach for Beach School.
We use the Cornerstones Curriculum to provide an exciting topic-based provision. We plan this carefully using Development Matters in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) to ensure that all children make good progress and leave ready to start Year One. If you would like to know more about this, then you can find a parent-friendly version at: https://www.foundationyears.org.uk/files/2015/03/4Children_ParentsGuide_2015_WEB.pdf
Phonics – We teach daily phonics using the LCP phonics programme, which is based on the DfE Letters and Sounds programme.
Leap for Life - this is a PE scheme for young children, which we run twice a week (see timetable below)
This half term's topic is called "Why do Ladybird's have spots?" and other minibeast questions. For our full topic plan, please see the link below.
If you ever have any spare time and would like to join us in school to help with reading or become a parent helper for our outdoor sessions, then please come and talk to us.
