Play is central to our setting
It is through play that children learn to negotiate with others, develop confidence and self esteem and the necessary social skills that prepare them for future life learning.
Staff plan topics and activities using the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum for 0 to 5 year olds. Children are able to join in with many fun and enjoyable activities and games (both child initiated and adult led) either as part of a group or on their own. Care is taken to differentiate activities as all children have different developmental needs, abilities and learning styles. Just some of the activities include painting, drawing, texture play, construction and role play. We have regular singing and story time built into the sessions to help provide structure and familiarity for the children.
Regular trips are made both locally to the orchard, play park and woods and further away such as the aquarium, farm or library. Our fantastic outdoor space is used constantly to deliver all areas of the curriculum and we are in the process of developing some of the areas to provide further learning opportunities.
We try to offer a wide range of opportunities throughout the week to ensure the children are stimulated and have the chance to try new experiences.
Last summer we introduced beach school into our weekly timetable. This takes place on a Monday morning and is loved by our staff and children. Please see our beach school page for more information.
Our Friday morning session is now our regular Forest School day, the children love to explore the local woodlands and under the guidance of our forest school teacher use this wonderful environment to enhance their learning. Please see our forest school page for more information.
All children on starting at our setting are given an ‘All about Me’ booklet to complete. This helps us develop a further understanding of their relationships, likes and enjoyments as well as giving you a chance to be creative together at home.
Holbeton Pre-School aims to develop strong partnerships with all parents and we encourage you to have an active role within the setting. Parents are welcome to attend sessions with their children and help with activities such as cooking, gardening and crafts so please do come and join us.
